Craftsman Style Trestle Table & Chairs

Now and then, we have the unique opportunity to design something of exceptional quality. This design for a dining table and chairs is an interpretation of a classic American style.

The table is sized to accommodate service for eight to ten people. Extension leaves allow the table to be expanded via retracting support arms concealed under the table surface. This approach simplifies both table construction and function compared to the more prevalent system of expanding tables by opening the ends to insert leaves in the center. The trestle design maximizes both legroom and usable tabletop area. Curving trestle frame ends allow the armchairs to slide fully under the table without interference.

The armchair and side-chair designs evolved through a study of ergonomics and seating case studies.

Table and chairs are constructed entirely of North American Cherry which was chosen for its warmth, durability and workability. Detailing emphasizes the joinery between individual table and chair components and is expressed through visible mortise-work.
