Quimby Residence – Grand Junction, Colorado

This residence is arranged into blocks that define multiple exterior patios opening onto views of the surrounding landscape.

The site slopes down to a recreation easement that protects a seasonal wash dotted with Rio Grande Cottonwood trees.

Fragmented sandstone walls form a spine that extends through the house to a stone tower. The tower opens to an observation deck inspired by the nearby tree canopies.

Details of the house borrow imagery from the surrounding landscape including cottonwood tree trunks, decaying pinion branches, and sandstone crevasses.
