Rough Canyon Residence – Grand Junction, Colorado

Sited near the rim of Rough Canyon, this house is organized to enclose a courtyard framed by existing trees with easterly views over the canyon edge.

Careful building placement preserves space for wildlife between house and canyon and buffers the courtyard from strong summer winds.

Existing vegetation screens the building from neighbors and filters traffic dust from the nearby gravel road.

The south façade of the house evokes a monk’s hood that shades south facing windows during summer months and shelters the front entry.
