Shanabarger Residence – Fruita, Colorado

Fruita, Colorado is a small town community currently undergoing dramatic growth. Like so many places struggling to manage growth, large areas of traditional farmland have been absorbed by suburban development to satisfy overwhelming demand.

This project utilizes the local farmhouse type as a model to preserve the rural character rapidly disappearing from the area.

The design is an assemblage of pods linked together to create protected exterior spaces suited to a variety of outdoor seasonal activities. Combinations of building forms help the house appear to have grown over time.
